Did you and Sox celebrate with a "Tipple" of something good Tracey.:D

I like Kasabian as well, no comment on the website seeing I have never visited Muse's, but maybe I'll take a gander now and see what all the "Hullabaloo" is about.:grinthumb

Hehe, yes, we don't need much of an excuse to have a few bevvies!

Yes I like Kasabian aswell - they actually won best album at the awards (I do love that album - 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum') and a couple of weeks ago they won best British band at the Brit Awards.
I like Arctic Monkeys too.

Re: Muse, the official thread !

I have all their albums, and would be happy to do a review of Absolution (my favourite) once the time comes :grinthumb

Oblivion give Salmacis a nudge :D If you want I'll try and do a review for Black Holes and Revelations after, unless you or anybody else wants to that is!

Absolution is the third released album by Muse, and it is my favourite of the lot. Every song is great, and many are in my top Muse songs of all. Matt Bellamy's vocals are the clear standout, with many long and high notes, as well as the gritty heavy sound he uses as well.

After an introduction that is basically a bit of marching feet, we are flung into Apocalypse Please, a piano and guitar driven piece where Matt's wails are at their longest and most epic. We then move to the slower, and smoother start of Time Is Running Out, tales of asphyxiation are rife before the chorus comes with a heavy gunshot guitar riff, and rather varied vocals.

Next is Sing For Absolution, which starts as a high pitched ballad, and makes it's way to a screaming finish, piano and guitar again prominent. But now, my favourite Muse song of all, Stockholm Syndrome builds up from a lone quick guitar riff to a pounding rythym and another mixture of vocals from Matt. Then it changes for the chorus, the piano comes in, Matt's voice gets higher, the bass is felt and the lyrics are simply chilling. We then have a quicker and bassier riff at the end, followed by a hint of a solo before reverting back to a more powerful chorus and an even more powerful finish!

Falling Away With You is the first song resembling a ballad on the album, it overall has a calmer feel than the hard hitting sounds of previous songs. The chorus however is charecteristically louder, yet still contained and it's a welcome relief after so much intense noise. The interlude is little more than a distorted, echoing riff, before we break into Hysteria. And Hysteria is good indeed, with more of the Muse sound we all love, and a suprisingly catchy chorus, yet the heavy guitar is always lurking, waiting patiently for it's moment.

Blackout was recorded with an 18 piece orchestra, and is the first real ballad on the album. Mostly violin orientated, Matt's vocals are once again high and long, yet not as excessive as they were in Apocalypse Please. Even the guitar is on a leash for this song, it's a proper slowie from Muse. Butterflies and Hurricanes is my second favourite song, starting with a quiet riff and rather monotonal vocals, it starts to build up when the bass and drums come in, and even more when the piano is smashed and Matt unleashes more epic notes. But then there's an extended bridge, with violins and lightly fingered piano, changing the song to a classical affair, before building up all over again, and tearing into the most powerful chorus of the lot, and finishing abruptly.

Remember that heavy energy from before, building up in Hysteria? Well here it is in The Small Print, in all it's glory. Drums are being hammered, guitar is unleashed and vocals are varied again. There's more hints of a guitar solo, before going into the loud and heavy choruses. Endlessly is the second ballad of the album, more violins and more high pitched vocals, with understated guitar, drums and bass. Another welcome slow down.

Thoughts Of A Dying Athiest is my third favourite, with an echoing riff, and quickly played bass and drums, it's a rare song with little change from the verse to chorus. The music is the same, if a little louder and only the guitar really changes. Matt's voice is also contained throughout, but it's no less incredible of a song. And the album closer is another ballad, probably the slowest of the lot, more light piano and violin melodies, and the vocals are the least impacting of the entire album. A slightly disappointing end to a brilliant 52 minutes of music.

Very well done Sal.:hab:

I have all of Muse's albums, but haven't had time to really delve as deep as you lot all seem too. Sometimes I have to say that Matt's high pitched vocals grate on me a bit, but overall I like Muse a lot.

I agree, the last one isn't all that good... It has good songs and bad ones.. But ,IMO, it isn't as good as the ones before. Not even close.. :D But maybe I'm the lucky one who does the review? Or maybe you'll download it Sweaty and do the review yourself? :D
