Dark Side is in my opinion the most over played, over hyped album of all the Floyd's albums. Meddle, Animals and Obscured By Clouds leave it in the dust....
For what it's worth, I completely agree with this assessment - these are my top three favourite Pink Floyd albums as in my opinion they represent the band at their absolute zenith. All three are exceptionally cohesive, have no filler tracks and seem more like true band efforts than The Wall, where Rick Wright was marginalised (Run Like Hell is the only song with a keyboard solo on the album) and a lot of session musicians were used. By contrast, Animals only features the four members of Pink Floyd, and the only guests on Dark Side and Wish You Were Here were the female vocalists and saxophonist Dick Parry. However, I still think The Wall is a fantastic listen and would take it over all the pre-Dark Side albums with the possible exception of Meddle, and all of the albums they released after it.
Dark Side of the Moon. This album is iconic in its originality from artistic point of view and technical point of view. This established Pink Floyd, and like Smoke on the Water was the riff to be played in all guitar shops, this PF album was the album to be played in all HiFi shops to show of the 'stereo effect' of the proposed systems....
