Hi Lynch..no - the exact opposite.
I was 14 when it was released and was well recieved as this album launched the Virgin label. The cover was really of it's time and was given great rock credence as Viv Stanshall from the Bonzos appeared on the record. I, and most considered it a 100% rock album..with no 'spooky' connections. A televised live version shown on BBC2 also featured Mick Taylor and other respected players. I do recall outcry and bible bashers outside cinemas at the time. It was given a XXX PG warning and posters had to be removed at night from the Cinema display cases.
I sneaked in with a girl who was two years older than me at the time. The entrance fee was far more scary..they hiked up Box Office prices due to the hype
( Ticketmaster) were watching and waiting!
Memories...now Jaws...that was different altogether!
