King Diamond, a heavy metal band/singer, formed in 1985 after the break up of Mercyful Fate, which was Kim Bendix Petersen's band. Kim Petersen is also known as King Diamond or King. King Diamond, the band, is originally from Denmark but now resides in Texas. Their music is mainly concept stories about topics of horror like witches, ghosts, haunted houses, graveyards, ghouls, entities, creatures, voodoo, and various other scary topics. All of their albums so far are concept albums, except two.

The first release of 1986, is not a concept album, and is their darkest album they have released. This album borders on the side of black metal. The vocals are clean, only some mild screaming, but the musical talent is incredible. Their work only gets better after the first release.

Re: King Diamond

The second release, Abigail, in 1987. The album is a concept album about a haunted mansion and a child, Abigail, who will be reborn again. The ghosts don't want this to happen.

Re: King Diamond

I think Denner and Sherman might disagree on Mercyful Fate being King's band alone - but yeah, it's King calling the shots on when Mercyful will play or not so without him Denner and Sherman's got nothing :D

My fave King-album is Abigail - and probably The Conspiracy 2nd. I think two of his more recent ones like House of God and Puppet Master were really strong.

I've seen him live a number of times and also saw Mercyful Fate in 93/94-ish.

Give it up for Denmark and give it up for Kim and Lars! :oy: :heheh:

I am glad someone likes KD besides me :) King has some of the strangest costumes and make-up. I wonder if some of them are "characters" from the stories.

Re: King Diamond

I had a friend of mine back in the day that loved him sooo much that everytime they played he would be overly stimulated as well as messed up that he would pass out as soon as the band came on.

Well at least I know this happened twice...:heheh:

Re: King Diamond

I played the first songs Magic posted and they are okay. I'm glad the vocals are mostly clean I might add a couple King D's albums to the ever expanding roster.:grinthumb

Re: King Diamond

Everyone MUST download The Lake. Youtube only has a stupid 8 bit version that someone did but this is honestly the best KD song ever made, very closely followed by Abigail.

I find him strangly attractive with his make up on but somewhat scary without it. Yes, totally backwards thinking, but that's how I roll.

I'm surprised no one posted this yet but this is one of the funniest songs ever. I just picture little kids crying around their Christmas tree and no gifts (mean, I know).

This song is also extremely awesome.

Re: King Diamond

I'll always love Don't Break the Oath above everything else the King was involved in, but those first two solo albums just slay.

Well, and all of it is better than what Hank Sherman did after MF broke up...

:wtf:
