Sometimes I listen to the Rick James album Street Songs and it's ok.

Possibly my favourite soul/funk/disco band is the Isley Brothers with all there 1970s and early 1980s albums and also Heatwave & Kool & the Gang.

^^^ You pegged a group I find over the top EZ as far as staying away from commercial pressure to do what everybody else is doing.. Isley's are in a boat by themselves.. How would it be to be a family with their talent?? No.. Osmonds don't count here..

Retorted.. I don't mind outkast..
If I listen to rap.. It's got to have something other than.. *CHOKE* some intellect

Blackstreet rates high on ability to do something easy on the ears.. They sing which bumps up the appreciation for being creative..

"Pussycat"...as Lee John used to purr..but saw these at Barbarellas in downtown Birmingham..and that fretless bass hummed good.

Nu Shooz Had some decent stuff that got them some attention on the radio and clubs..

Then you have Chaka Khans daughter from the group Delite with "Groove Is In The Heart. Featuring some vocals by Bootsy.

Another group who brought George Clinton in to do those funky vocals he does..
