With lovers, buggers, & thieves.
My stock answer, to the exclusion of everything else has always been "Close To The Edge".

However... this time I am going with "Brain Salad Surgery". (Even I tire of seeing the same winner all the time!)

One of those polls where your answer would be different on another day.

Today, I voted for DSOTM

and feel bad for not voting for about half a dozen different options!

Close to the Edge takes it by a country mile.

Second place goes to Moonmadness.

There are a few other worthy choices in the list ....2112, Selling England, Fragile.

I always liked 'Crime of the Century' too but a lot of people wouldn't rate it as a particular stand out album.

Personally I could never stand anything ELP ever did, and I think DSOTM is overrated (apart from 'Time')

Like the poster above I've also never heard the albums with the Italian names...although I have heard of PFM the band....

Yeah for me it's close to the edge.
After that it was Pink Floyd Animals. IMO the best Floyd album but that is controversial.
I'd put Animals second.
Thick as a Brick is in there somewhere for sure.

I'd also mention Peter Gabriel's first post Genesis Album as a classic.

Deke Leonard was in the Welsh progressive rock band MAN and he played electric guitar & organ and I did have at onetime not to long ago have a couple of his solo albums from the mid 1970s on cds one was Kamikaze and the other was Iceberg and I only found out about a year ago that he had died only a couple of years ago.

I have a nice dvd of MAN playing a German gig in 1975 that features Deke along with the late Mickey Jones on electric guitar, Deke on electric guitar and also organ, Martin Ace on bass & Terry Williams on drums.

WYWH is my all-time favorite album. CTTE, Aqualung, Lamb Lies Down, and In The Court Of The Crimson King would be my other picks for top 5 in no particular order. As far as this list goes, anyway..

I'd also like to add Atomic Rooster's Death Walks Behind You as a "classic prog" album. A real power trio behind that one..
