On this day 23 years ago, June 4, 1996, Load was released.

I know some of you here still don't like this album. When it was released, I was in the same boat. "WTF is this shit?!" However, it didn't take long to warm up to it. To this day, I still fully enjoy almost this entire album and still listen to it on a regular basis.

It does take some listens to grow but it did for me. Good album.

And then there is the flipside ... on this day in 2003, this turdlette of an album was released.

St Anger (June 5, 2003)

I've tried, I really have tried to like this album. While there are some positives sprinkled all over the album, the lack of true guitar solos combined with possibly the single-worst drum sound on any metal album... EVER... it's hard to get through (for me).

If some of the songs were shorter and the snare was turned on I could forgive the lack of solos. It would have been a tolerable listen.

Maybe they heard the new Megadeth sounding so retro and heavy they realized they had to step up their game?
