The Carpenters - Why do they have such a stigma around them? Karen had a one in a million voice and her brother was a very talented guy himself and yet try popping in one of their songs around a group of regular people and see the reaction.
I think I would also resist playing a Carpenters song around people my age for the same reason.

For me, there were more schlock songs in the 70's on AM radio than there were gems.

And then there were a few songs that fit into that "guilty pleasure" category. This song, for me, is one of them. I love it, but I would never play it at a party. :D

(I hope no one thinks Seals & Crofts and Three Dog Night are guilty pleasures)

A favorite "guilty pleasure" of mine from my childhood days in northern Minnesota: "Come And Get Your Love" by the native-American group Redbone. Not sure how Red Redbone members are. My guess is 20% American Indian, 40% Spanish, and 40% Jewish. Like 80% of East L.A. Rumor has it that La Raza is going to change the name of S Arizona Ave to Robert Avila Avenue.

The Power Of Love - the Laura Branigan version, not that sickly sweet tripe by Celine Dion. Something about the raw power in Laura's voice always gets me.

I used to like Taylor Swift when she was a pseudo-country artist, but her new pop stuff is just garbage. She hasn't grown very much as a songwriter. Her lyrics still sound like they were written by a 12 year old. It's so painfully obvious that she never went to college.

Here's one that I love listening to now and again. Can't help but love the innocence of those times.
