Last Friday I went to an after hours party at a newly found friends house. He had two guitars, a sax, keyboard and some various drums (bongos and such). Unfortunately I'm a lefty so I was limited to diads and a D chord. I was trying to play scales and chords upside down and backwards with limited success.
Anyway he got me into Roy Buchanan whom I've read about but never really listened to. What a great blues/country/rock player. I understand he's of the Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson crew but a little more blues oriented. He's right up my alley as far as style and I just downloaded a slew of his stuff. So tonight the (left-handed) Telecaster is going to make an appearence at his place for a party. A couple of musicians are supposed to show up so I'm looking forward to a good jam session. I just finished listening to some Roy Buchanan and have to redeem myself.

Listening to some more Roy Buchanan just now and the song Baltimore resembles the James Gang's Stop and Funk #48 (not #49). This guy is simply awesome. I understand he died under mysterious conditions in jail. They say he hung himself but there is speculation he was killed by bad cops and it was covered up and made to look like suicide. What a shame.

I saw Roy play in Toronto 3 times several years ago before he died (obviously).
He is undoubtedly one of the greatest guitarists :( ever. Try to find his "You're Not Alone" Cd and "Livestock" and "Live in Japan". PBS once did a documentary about him titled "The Greatest Unknown Guitarist".
When he died, to myself and my friends it was like losing John Lennon...his death was considered mysterious after he was thrown in jail one night after being arrested for being drunk and disorderly. Apparently he hung himself while in custody, though many of his closest friends say he was roughed up by the cops who tried to cover up their assault on him.

^^Yeah that's what I'd suggest too. Roy is a very talent guitarist and he's so so so so overlooked.

Here's my favorite thing by him. It's a cover of "Hey Joe" and is my favorite version of the song:
