What's the loudest gig you've been to? Or which gig has made your ears ring the most

That's a hard one to decide, in the 70's I have been to plenty of gigs where my ears were ringing long time afterwards. There was one gig where I was positioned in front of stage of Hammersmith Odeon on the right side (facing the stage) Deep Purple concert and I had the full blast of RB speakers. In those times it was good to be familiar with the songs, because I sure hell could not recognise them at the time of concert, it was all so loud and I could only hear part of the instruments. During the playing a lot of times I had to work out the song they were playing.... The film 'Spinal Tap' really hit it spot on what it was like with Rock bands and when he said 'look the volume knob goes up to 11..!' that really reflected the attitude of many 'Rock' bands in the 70's.

Motörhead in 1981. Thankfully Ozzy turned it down. The arena where they played had awful acoustics. Van Halen in 1982 and BOC in '83 were very loud.

Aerosmith 1979.
Interesting, must have been the same tour.
Aerosmith, summer of 1978, Houston Texas. The midst of their drug years, Joe Perry's guitar was turned up so loud you couldn't hear anything else. My ears rang for 3 days, my older brother had a headache for the next day or so.

The only upside was their 2 opening acts were terrific, some no name bands people weren't aware of, ummmmmm........what were their names.......oh, yeah, some Australian band named AC/DC and a band from San Francisco called Journey.

Actually you are right. It was 78.

March 4. They hadn't played since January and we were told that they had a new PA so they "tested it out" at a small venue before the next leg of the tour.
The venue was much too small for the speakers. It was ungodly loud.
The promoter had announced that Aerosmith would be playing before the beginning of a show a couple of weeks before. I think it was a J Geils show. It was nuts that Aeorsmith would be playing there. They were much to big of a band to play that venue.
You had to mail in for tickets and I didn't get any but a buddy of mine did.
I was lucky enough to score one.
Actually another contender for loudness would have been at the same venue a couple of weeks later.
Van Halen the first of 3 bands followed by Journey and Montrose.
