This is tough.
I admit that I have always had just a tiny bit of a voice that feels like Clapton is a bit over rated when it comes to the blues.
He's very very good but I think there are better electric blues players.
But Clapton covers a lot more ground than probably anybody else.
All kinds of Blues and also so much rock and roll. Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominoes.
There is just nobody else who has done that.
In terms of pure Blues fireworks. I'd actually give Rory a slight edge.
Along with SRV, and Joe Bonamassa and others.
But in the overall it's Clapton by a long shot.
None of the others ever did a Sunshine of Your Love or a Layla etc...
Actually my favorite Clapton period was with Delaney and Bonnie.
So I'd have to pick Clapton.
But I think Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes are right in his league in terms of pure playing.
Clapton comes on at around 1:42:00
He's great but Derek kicks ass as well.
Derek's slide solo is next level off the hook.
