Why is Stevie Nicks more appreciated than Christine McVie?

Okay, I love Fleetwood Mac but I don't know much about their private life. I can see though, especially in the media, that everyone seem to praise Stevie Nicks. There's some kind of Fleetwood Mac Renessaince but Stevie Nicks is the only one they all talk about - that she's so pretty, such an amazing witch, what a great voice, what amazing lyrics etc.

No disrespect to Stevie, I like her, but I personally think Christine is better - I like her simple lyrics way more and I find her voice simply beautiful. Of course that's just my opinion and I don't want to discredit Stevie in any way. I'm just wondering - am I the only one liking McVie more? Why is everything about Stevie Nicks recently?

PS - of course Fleetwood Mac is more than Stevie and Christine, I just know that media, especially internet, love "rock and roll ladies" and I'm wondering why they chose Stevie over Christine when it comes to Fleetwood Mac...

I actually agree with you about Christine. Stevie Nicks is a good performer, singer, etc., possessed the sex appeal, but Christine has a prettier voice, imo.

As a whole, I prefer Peter G's Fleetwood Mac... an unpopular opinion, I'm sure, especially when an album like Rumors exists.

But I'd think of Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham before I thought of Stevie, honestly.

My 2 cents worth on this topic....

Sex and/or charisma (Nicks) almost always sells over the songbird (MvVie)

Stevie Nicks was sultry and mysterious in her stage persona and in her vocal delivery. Christine was more of a song bird and seemed to be more quiet both on stage and off. I don't really remember much about Christine in the news, other than her marriage and divorce from John and simply being a member of the band. Stevie was in and out of the news a lot more and was in front of cameras a lot more (or at least that's the way that I remember it)

I dunno, I could be wrong.

Yeah, I was also thinking about the fact that Stevie is more of a celebrity but still I feel like Christine is very underrated :( Leonard Cohen was not a celebrity neither and people loved him for his talent

Stevie had a fairly big solo career as well. I think more notable than even Lindsey's, so she was "around" more than Christine.

I certainly like Christine as much as Stevie. She contributed as much to FM as anyone.

Songwriting credits, vocals credits and personal politics within the band aside, I always compared the two in the 70's this way: Stevie was young, hot, had a sexy smile, dressed sexy and had expressive vocals. Christine on the other hand was a rather plain-looking, older gal who didn't seem to smile much (if at all) and whose vocals sounded tired. It didn't help Christine's cause that I didn't like a few of the songs she sang on. Another thing purely from an eye-candy perspective is it was always easier to become entranced by a hot little blondie wearing flowing garbs and shaking a tambourine center stage than it was from watching a wallflower behind a piano off on the side of the stage.

But that was then.

I have to say that over the years I've found Stevie's vocals to be a tad on the flinty side, while I have a newfound appreciation for Christine's vocals (especially on FM songs from the 80's) so maybe the balance has shifted a bit for me.

But if we're wondering why Stevie was more appreciated than Christine, Stevie was an attractive extrovert while Christine was a rather meek-looking introvert. I think attractive extroverts win that matchup every time. It's like comparing Carly Simon to Janis Ian.

Why is Stevie in the Rock Hall for her solo career and Pat Benatar isn’t.Her music blows Stevie’s away

I've always been a fan of FM, but when the band is talked about, Christine and her ex aren't mentioned that much or any at all. Christine is a darn good keyboard player, but Mick, Stevie and Lindsey were talked about quite a bit. From the interviews I've seen, Mick does the interviews.

Christine is good-to-great, but people acknowledge the lead singer/singers, as in Stevie and Lindsey more.

Could it be because Stevie wrote way more of her own stuff? Not every song of course, but most.
