Re: Thin Lizzy

I'm a huge fan - have everything they released, some in different prints - the vast majority is of course vinyl + VHS/DVD's and bootlegs.

Started out with Jailbreak, Killers, Life and Renegade. Got the first three early on too. I actually got most of the albums in a bit of a rush once I got hooked. Favourite song is Vagabonds of the Western World. I got into them around 82-84-ish. Heard that Phil died on the radio barely an hour after it had actually happened, remember it distinctly.

I recommend the book his Mom put out a couple of years ago - My Boy. Great read.

Re: Thin Lizzy

A real shame he died so young. So much more could've been done, not just by him, but the band a whole, had they stuck together.

Very sad... Phil was amazing.. I was lucky enough to see them twice during the late 70's..

Im not sure the band could really do much without phil as he wrote 99% of the mussic and lyrics... his voice was beyond pristine..

Re: Thin Lizzy

Think Lizzy was Phil's band more than anyone else...he was the voice and the spirit in my opinion, and there just is no band without him period.

Re: Thin Lizzy

Couldn't agree more, LG!:grinthumb Phil was Thin Lizzy.

There have been various incarnations touring lately though. Scott Gorham and John Sykes have done a couple of tours as Thin Lizzy. I have no idea what they sound like. I think it would be very hard to find someone who even sounds close to Phil.

With all due respect to them, I don't think I would go if they did tour here, I prefer to remember the band in it's original and best incarnation. No problem with them keeping the music alive and making a living though.;)

agreed... without Phil, it was a waste of a tremendously talented band...Brian's drumming never gets the props deserved for his various drum styles..

when Gary did that tribute that was as close as one could get..Garys vocals felt more natural...

I like that band does tours as a "tribute" to the music..as the songs remain some of the most timeless songs written ...no metal band could ever match Phils diversity..
