It's cool - ''Tears In Heaven'' kinda gave Clapton a mellow reputation to some folks.

But it also opened the door to a new generation of fans, so it wasn't that bad.

:cheers2.

Agree..
I would place me in your second sentence.. and he s a excellent guitar player!

After "Cocaine", the only other song on the album I really got into was "The Core". I just wasn't a fan of Eric's Bluesier material until Journeyman in 1990.

EC was featured in a short pre-recorded 5 minutes interview segment on BBC radio 4 on Saturday 6th January with the radio interview bring aired at approximately 8:40am (London time) with the interview having taken place on the previous day in London.

The interview was in regards to a new film that features Eric and is called A LIFE IN 12 BARS and is due for release in cinemas shortly. The short radio interview include how Eric was originally 'turned on' to music by hearing Chuck Berry and that was followed by a brief mention of how the song Layla came about which was then followed by Eric's well documented racist rant at a gig back in the mid 1970s and how he basically put that down to immaturity and how he had recently voted to remain in the EU referendum plus he also confessed that for about 20 years he had been a alcoholic and was quite frankly a nasty person to be around during that whole time period and went on to say that he doesn't really talk about this much but during that time that he was a alcoholic he wanted to commit suicide but what stopped him was the thought that he wouldn't get another drink!!. There was then a brief mention of his young son who died when he accidently fell from a high rise apartment block back in the early 1990s and how he then wrote the song Tears In Heaven in tribute to his son with Eric going on to say that the hardest part of the film to watch is when he saw previously unseen film footage of his young son which he found tough watching.

I'm currently reading Eric's Autobiography and he said (not literally bc I don't read it in English): "Some people remember very well what they were doing the day John Kennedy died (...)". Do you think it's a reference to Lou Reed's song? :hm:

It's a reference to those things people say to mark important world events that happened during their lifetime. Just like later generations might say I still remember what I was doing when Challenger exploded, the wall fell, or more recently when 9/11 happened.

Great book by the way.

The only book that I ever read about Eric Clapton from start to finish was the Christopher Sandford book Edge Of Darkness first published in 1994 where the author shows what appeared to be some personal contempt over Mr.Clapton on nearly every page but which also made it an interesting book to read in a strange way?. No doubt EC as an ordinary person probably has his failings like everyone else but the 2 years he was in CREAM along with Jack Bruce & Ginger Baker along with Eric's masterpiece recording Derek & the Dominos- Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs double album makes him rise above virtually everyone else in the field of rock music over the last 50 years living or dead as far as I'm concerned except maybe for Jimi Hendrix.
