The New Kid In Town
As far as I'm concerned, these are all great tracks - Machine Head is a true classic album and one of my very favourites by anyone. However, my top three choices would be:
1. Highway Star
2. Smoke On The Water
3. Lazy
Honourable mention: Space Truckin'
I think side two of this album is especially outstanding, as you can probably see by my choices. Having said that, Highway Star has always been my favourite Purple song, and I consider it to be six minutes of relentless brilliance from. I guess some people find Smoke On The Water a bit overexposed, but I still love the guitar riff and it benefits from one of Ritchie Blackmore's very best guitar solos. It was a very tough choice between Lazy and Space Truckin' for the final spot, but I think Jon Lord's organ work on the former probably gives it the edge here.
