Yesterday was the 33rd Anniversary of Phil Lynott's tragic death. I've been playing Lizzy and paying a bit of homage to Phil who, as a bassist myself , has always been one of my favorite players out of the 70s era.
But it obviously wasn't just his bass prowless that gave Phil his appeal. He sang with such emotion and passion about the things he loved. And although he also deeply identified with his black heritage which he got from his father, Phil was filled with awe and wonder when it came to his Celtic heritage . His lyrical fascination with Irish mythology and history which is woven into Lizzy songs coupled with his soulful delivery gave Thin Lizzy something that was definitely all their own. I'm on a bit of an Irish jag though in this case it's Thin Lizzy's music fueling my binge not bottled spirits.
R.I.P. Phil Lynott ,may your inner demons be behind you now where ever you may be.
