Yeah first page of the book shows the character name for each singer...and the lyrics have the character name by each section or line :grinthumb

Decent band if the new album is to go by. I think Blind Guardian and Helloween are better personally but this is awesome stuff.

Perhaps you'd be even more into "The Metal Opera" and "The Metal Opera Part II". The style of those two goes more in the direction of classic power metal like Helloween, BG, etc. You should check them out.

It's been out for a while now. My wife bought me a copy when it came out. For me, the first two Avantasia albums always stood out for their uniqueness, well, at least they were unique when they came out. Ayreon was doing something similar of course, but quite differently musically. I think this one could be my new favourite Avantasia album. Needless to add, imo all the Avatansia albums range from really good and upwards.

It's difficult to pick a favourite track, but I'm always going to be partial to anything Sharon den Adel sings on, so I'll go with "Isle Of Evermore". :D

"Draconian Love" is also one of the stand outs, because gothic rock is not exactly what you'd expect on an Avantasia album. :D

I've only listened to a couple of their songs on YT and I like what I hear, I just haven't ever pursued purchasing anything of theirs. I probably should.

Any recommendations from anyone here, what do you think would be their two 2 albums to buy first? Yeah, I do like Helloween as well as Blind Guardian (which I've seen people compare them to in points, including in this thread).

Thanks in advance.

The early style of Avantasia was power metal à la Helloween etc and the original Helloween singer, Michael Kiske, sings on all but one Avantasia album. Some of the later releases are more hard rock than power metal, which I think probably appeals to a broader audience, but as I mentioned in my post above, I think the first two albums, "The Metal Opera" and "The Metal Opera II", are the essential albums.
