Looking for the date Tommy Ramone left the band & why. I have a 79 live album with his autograph but I think he was gone by then. He is on the live album which was probably recorded in 78

Why did Tommy Ramone leave the band?

Tommy was with the band from the beginning, and drummed on their first three studio albums. Tommy's last show was May 4, 1978, at CBGB in New York. Tommy left under amiable terms, citing a dislike of touring and desire to be a producer. He returned to produce the albums Road to Ruin and Too Tough To Die.

The so-called 'classic rock' FM stations nowadays play Blitzkrieg Bop and I Wanna Be Sedated. Back when those songs were new, radio would not go within a mile of the Ramones.

They remain the essence of punk rock, at least on the American side. No one ever did it better for my money.

The other famous musicians to come out of Forest Hills, Queens, are Simon & Garfunkel. Go figure! There's a musical melting pot.

I had a honor of seeing Richie Ramone concert a few months back. It was in a small venue and it lasted about an hour and a half but it was priceless experience for me.
