I love how you summed it up, but I'm not sure who's to blame. Everybody likes different music; some agree and don't agree on just about everything.

Basically, I'm into Heavy Metal Rock; including 'Classic'; & that will never change!

There are some posts in this thread that illustrate the very worst thing about categorizing music into tight little pigeonholes. Even if it were possible to accurate jam individual songs into tiny little boxes, far too many people (especially the evil industry suits) try to cram bands and solo artists into those little prison cells. That's a fool's exercise. The best bands and solo artists have enough musical versatility to make recordings of more than one type of music. There are exceptions, like AC/DC or George Thorogood, whose every song sounds like every other song they've recorded. But for the most part, a good catalog of recordings will include examples from multiple genres.

Kris Kristofferson's most lasting piece of wisdom is, "If it sounds like a country song, it's a country song". That's true for all genres. Just because the damn suits pigeonholed a particular band as being in one genre, if they record a great sounding song from another genre, it shouldn't be suppressed and held off of the radio because "stations of this genre don't ever play songs from that band". That's bullshit.

I've always liked rock and roll which is loud, simple, gritty and distorted. In saying that, I listen to any music with the basic guitar, bass, drums and (mostly) a singer lineup.

Currently, I'm collecting bands associated with heavy-psych, stoner, doom-metal, DIY punk, glam/bonehead/junkshop, new wave and power-pop.

It is hard to be specific on genres, so I like everything that is classic pop, rock and roll and rock. Outside of that, I do like experimental music but probably from the last century, as the contemporary experimental scene is huge. Finally, synth-pop from the late 70s and early 80s is a favourite from my teenage years.

For me it is simpler to say what I don't listen to which is Grime, majority of rap, most boybands, (Girl bands such as the chirells far more exciting), some jazz which goes on too long, looking at its own navel and all tube lovers go awol, a lot of modern pop music (all be done before but much better), most of grunge music (makes Punk positively exciting & thrilling) and alot of heavy metal bands without quality like the Foo Fighters. I think I might of missed out a few others but apart from the above all else is pleasure and life.

Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life. Quote from Beethoven and I think he gets it spot on...

Rock and roll is my favorite. Always has been - likely always will be.

That said, there is as much absolute garbage in rock as there is gold.

Some other genres I do not feel that way about.

Classical - never heard one single note I truly dislike.

Bluegrass - ditto

Jazz - almost never heard anything completely boring or distasteful (that is until the 70s when Jazz had a lot of pop puke injected).

Country - love hate relationship. The stuff I like I like a lot. The stuff I don't like I never want to hear again.

Worldmusic - varies.
