In recent months, I've even gained a new fondness for the two studio albums that Ripper was on.

I think that JP did some of their absolutely heaviest stuff on these albums. Not saying "best stuff" but heaviest.

Amen, brother. Ripper's stuff is really decent and heaviest, I love these albums. 2_sm16.gif

P.S. All in all, for me, their best album from all decades is "Painkiller". 2_sm5.gif

The song PAINKILLER does me ears in!!.

I remember seeing 'the Priest' on the TOTP (Top Of The Pops) back in 1979 performing TAKE ON THE WORLD and thinking those guy's looked really cool especially KK Downing with his long blonde hair wearing black leather welding a Gibson flying V axe!!.

I never really liked Glenn's guitar back then I reckon he should have played something with a more 'modern shape' rather than the thing he was playing.

Ram it Down was a real grower like Jugulator. The only real shit stain on the discography for me is pretty much Demolition.
It took me a while to warm up to either one of the Ripper albums. I've gone back and forth over the years as to which one I liked more. It's probably still a bit of a toss up, but I'm liking both a lot more lately.

One on One is probably my favorite track off of Demolition.

One on One is one of the better songs for sure. Its a similar thing with Maiden for me in the Bayley era where I liked the first album but not the second. lol

I liked the 'Ripper' Owens era Priest and in fact I thought it was a backwards step when they brought Rob back into the band and from memory I believe KK wasn't to keen on bringing Rob back in either. Granted Rob is a f**king brilliant front man & HM vocalist but I thought 'Ripper' did a good job fronting the band and gave them a younger appeal.

That's where I disagree. Angel of Retribution was a huge step up from the Ripper albums. Nostradamus is more polarising but even that album is superior imho and Redeemer was a solid return in 2014. Bringing Rob back was the smartest move they made. That said Ripper was never my issue with Demolition. He did a good job but the music itself was lacklustre with awful mixing.

Yeah I reckon that your probably right with your observations Riff and regarding both 'Ripper' & Rob it was more of a feeling 'at the time' when Ripper left and Rob came back.

With regards to ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION yeah I like that album and as for NOSTRADAMUS yeah I'm not sure if I like it mainly cos there isn't any fast numbers on it everything is taken at a slow to medium pace tempo which gets a bit boring after awhile. I played DEMOLITION a number of times back in the early 2000s and thought it was ok but I haven't heard it since then and the other Priest album that has 'Ripper' on it I played it once or maybe twice again back in the early 2000s but don't really remember it now.

Jugulator for me was pretty good and I do go back to that one. Nostradamus is one of those albums where its gonna divide opinions being so orchestral in sound so really I can understand why you feel that era was a step back to an extent. After Painkiller nothing was really going to compare to it to be fair either but aside from Demolition, there's been some solid work imo.

JUGULATOR yes that's the name of the other album 'Ripper' sang on I couldn't remember it's name and as for NOSTRADAMUS that took a lot of people by surprise!. To be honest I am not a massive Priest fan to the exclusion everything else going on (although I like them) that's because I'm always listening to lots of other 1970s & 1980s rock/metal bands so I basically know a band like Judas Priest mainly through hearing there main studio albums and through press cuttings & media interviews from the past.

I enjoy both decades but have to give the edge to the 70's....Hell Bent for Leather is my favorite Priest album
Interesting as I think it's one of my least favorites. Stained Class and Sad Wings are the best to me. SIn After Sin is an often overlooked album but I think it's killer.
