^^ The vinyl sounds fantastic. I gave "Firepower" several spins during Friday and over the weekend and I enjoy it slightly more than "Redeemer Of Souls" – which was a really good album. I'm not so fond of giving ratings, but "Firepower" is somewhere around 8.5 for me.
I typically don't give ratings like that either but was asked so thought I'd give them for the albums including Firepower post Painkiller.
I do think Firepower's sound is definitely better than Redeemer for sure. Just need to give it subsequent listens to see if the music itself matches up. Tbh there is a case to argue there is a bit of filler.
As great as the new album is, "Angel of Retribution" is still my favourite since "Painkiller". It's not that there's a whole lot between them overall, but "Firepower" doesn't have anything that comes close to the majestic "Judas Rising" imo. Still, I'd say "Firepower" is their second best since "Painkiller".
I've listened to it a few times and I tend to agree with both of you in terms of where this album lands on the "since Painkiller" list.
I would definitely put Angel of Retribution as the best album since Painkiller, but I would then put Redeemer and Firepower pretty much neck-in-neck / tied for the #2 spot behind AoR.
