How the end of Rush let Alex Lifeson be 'as creative as I want to be'

Guitarist and charter member of the legendary Canadian prog-rock trio says he's actually been 'busier lately than I have been in a while' since the band stopped touring and recording

"It's been a little over two years since Rush last toured. We have no plans to tour or record any more. We're basically done. After 41 years, we felt it was enough.

But I've actually been busier lately than I have been in a while. I'm writing a lot. I'm writing on four or five different little projects. I get these requests to do guitar work with other people. It's really a lot of fun for me. It's low pressure: I get to be as creative as I want to be and I can work a little outside of the box, which is really attractive to me."

I read in 2016 that they were still under contract with their management for one more studio album. If that was true, they may have found a way out of it. Health Clause?

In the interview Geddy did with Dan Rather this past fall, he sounded cautiously hopeful for something more from Rush.

I suspect the reason is that Geddy and Alex may have grown tired of waiting for Neal to change his mind.

Sad Day.

Quite glad they're done. Clockwork Angels is a good album to go out on anyway.

Agreed, although I thought "Snakes & Arrows" was better! The band's body of work is enough to keep us entertained for the rest of our lives, so I can accept it if there's never going to be a new album. I'm a bit bummed about the touring part, as I'm still dreaming of seeing them live one day.

Alex and Geddy have said that there is some, but not much unreleased material. Hopefully we may now get hear that music.

PS - I was holding out hope for a farewell album and some live shows. But I am happy with the great music and memories Rush has given us.
