This is repugnant.

Whoever doesn't like rock and roll babes is missing out. Some of the most talented and revered musicians are women and I would worship the ground they stand on!

Especially today I think the claim is nonsense. Females are largely as good or better than a lot of male rockers now in the Rock genre. If a place wants to not hire based on what their clientele doesn't seem to buy into I get that the goal is to make money but the statement is moronic. It can easily mean there's a lack of depth of talent in your area or your demographic are morons with shit taste perhaps shaped by biases. Anyway, one place doing this is but a drop.in the bucket and we all can still enjoy the great female talents we love. The best live talent I've seen is Meg Myers and Tori Amos is another top 5. A bunch of other females round out my live Rock experience as well. Dead Sara is a bucket list one to see too. To Hell with attitudes about female rock. It's not the dominant attitude by far. :)

Australia, working in the EU right now!
I started by listening to Little Richard then on to Elvis and later on to Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin (the rest is history). Then I put the needle in the groove of a record by Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Suzi Quatro, Heart and I've been hooked to female rock ever since :)

Boys, it's a business.
“It’s nothing to do with me, it’s the pub’s regulars who come in every week, they won’t come in if there’s a female singer.”
If that is their experience, then they have to do what's best for them to stay in business.

Of course, I think they're incredibly stupid in announcing it: unless what they want is the publicity.

I don't think it's stupid at all since any publicity is good publicity...unless you're doing something illegal. So they have nothing to lose in announcing this to the world.

That said, it does sound like they have a strange crowd which frequents this place.
