I didn't say it mattered to me, i was just pointing it out. For me, DP was among the top tier rock bands in the first half of the '70s beyond one album.

Well said. What the public perceives regarding albums or bands has little to no impact on me.

I think we all agree the quality, inspiration, sheer pleasure or whatever else we get from an album is subjective, up to us individually and to hell what the rest of the public or reviewers think. Machine Head just happens to be just one of these albums for me and let me just slip it in that in the same topic of DP the live compilation album Made in Japan was a sort of a pioneer album for live albums. On the first idea of making a live album members of Deep Purple were not really up for it because of track record for live albums productions were not good. But Made in Japan for me proved the opposite and it gave a little window for the general public as what Deep Purple sounded like live which for me was electrifying..!:guitar:

You certainly won't get any argument from me.... It's a fact that Machine Head & Made in Japan are amazing classics . :grinthumb

I've been listening to this album more lately, and Fireball as well. Both outstanding in their own right. Maybe I'm a Leo, Pictures of Home, Lazy,...I love the ones the radio doesn't play,...the best.

It's one of the great classic rock albums.
But Highway Star, Lazy, Space Trucking and Smoke On The Water came "alive" on Made In Japan. Those versions blow the studio versions out of the water.

Machine Head is one of the greatest rock albums of all time! All killer, no filler.
From the Purple's catalog I would put only DP In Rock ahead of MH by a hair.

Personally I prefer listening to the 1997 remixed version of MACHINE HEAD it sounds more fresher & brighter sounding than the original album to my ears.

Probably DEEP PURPLE'S finest album release with or without Ritchie Blackmore being in the band in my humble opinion followed closely by IN ROCK (1970) & BURN (1974) both in joint second place.
