Strange match-up. These two bands are so far apart on the rock spectrum it isn't even really fair to pair them up.

I'm going to go with ZZ Top. One of the best 3 piece bands, that plays straight up boogie blues, to ever grace the stage. A long running band of the same three guys, who still are able to rock after all these years!!!!

Don't misunderstand my position. I like Whitesnake, too. It's just that these two bands are so different. Literally!! When I think of Whitesnake, I think 1980's, where I consider ZZ Top to be a 70's band. I could easily play ZZ Top's first 9 albums in a row and not get bored....and that would take us all the way through the early 80's.

I'm a big fan of Tommy Aldridge and his work with Black Oak Arkansas (this would be a good match-up for ZZ Top) and Pat Traverse, Crash and Burn is one of my all time favorite albums. I really like the work David Coverdale did with Deep Purple and with Page. Infact, Page/Coverdale is in my top 50 albums list.

ZZ Top but only as far as their 70s stuff goes. IMO, their MTV material blows.
Whitesnakes early stuff is underappreciated though. Some really cool albums in their discography.

Back in my 80's heydays,I believe the Top were more sincerely creative as well as they were more original with their own take on pure All American Texas blues.Whitesnake could have been too easily mistaken for far too many other "hair bands" of the period..................

Ditto that statement.
