...but the more I thought about it there is no band that really comes close to capturing that original spirit of Rock & Roll like the Stones & there is no sign of them giving up!!!!

I agree!

My pick would be Chuck Berry or The Rolling Stones. The Stones still represent the spirit of rock n' roll.

Hey can we pick a DJ ? Wolfman Jack! now there is rock n' roll :D

60s- The Rolling Stones. I respect them, although I'm not really a big fan.
70s- Deep Purple. Ian Gillan is more masculine sounding than Plant. Plants stage persona totally sinks the notion of Zep being "rock&roll" too. Blouses and hand on hip poses are rock and roll?
80s- Guns& Roses. Although like the Stones, I'm not a huge fan, I just "like" some of their best stuff.
90s- Motorhead. To me Motorhead were a true late bloomer of a band. I know their early stuff is more well known, but their 90s output is damn fine rock&roll.

But that's just what I would class as "rock & roll" For example Iron Maiden and Queen were damn good bands in the 80s and 70s respectively, but their music is not what I would really class as rock& roll. Rock & roll is rawer and more hormonally fuelled.
