Listening to Awaken The Guardian at the moment.

This track has possibly the most incredible intro ever. Not too many songs start with a blistering solo.

The best part of the CD era is I can keep hitting the back button and replay that opening. I effed up the cassette doing the same thing.

Most fans I know think Spectre Within is their best album. I love it to death, especially side 2. I love the album's early Metal Blade type of sound. That being said, I think Awaken The Guardian is a better album in almost every way possible. For me, it is the very definition of progressive metal.

In March 2016 the Awaken the Guardian lineup (Arch, Matheos, Aresti, DiBiase and Zimmerman) will reunite for a European show to celebrate the album's 30th anniversary. In September 2016 The same lineup will headline the Progpower USA Festival in Atlanta, Georgia.

The current line-up is supposed to begin recording a new album late this year. I wouldn't mind a new album from the original line-up.

I’ve been on a Progressive Metal kick of late. Just getting around to Fates Warning. I like them! Currently listening to Parallels.

Oh my, what an album. Very atmospheric, warm melodies. Astounding guitar parts. Vocals are amazing. Such a classy album 9/10.

@Riff Raff posted my pick, Life in Still Water

Ray Alder has got some high pipes…
The Eleventh Hour

Now I’ve decided to listen to the debut,
Night on Bröcken.

I’m only 6 songs in…I like vocalist John Arch. He fits the music perfectly….a bit of a shrill, screeching voice though.

The debut is sooo different than Paralells. Not even the same genre, IMO. Night on Bröcken is more traditional heavy metal. 80’s style. This isn’t a bad thing, it’s just not very original. However, at the time of release, it was in the same vein as Judas Priest, a formidable contender. 8/10

Top pick..Kiss of Death

and a hint at the future ….
Night on Brocken
