David Lee Roth Believes He’ll Be Back With Van Halen

David Lee Roth sounds hopeful about his future with Van Halen, in the latest episode of The Roth Show. He seems confident not just that the group, who last toured in 2015, will return to a concert venue near you but also that they will produce a follow up to 2012’s A Different Kind of Truth.

“It’s not like my career path is gonna be altered,” Roth says. “I sort of know what the next 10 summers are going to bring. Eddie Van Halen aside — those are ups and downs — I don’t know when we’re going to tour but I have a sense that we will. I don’t know that we’re going to record again — when that’ll happen — but I get the sense that it’s gonna happen.”

Van Halen’s most recent dates were in support of Tokyo Dome Live in Concert, their first-ever concert recording with Roth. Since then, however, rumors abounded about what’s next for the group, up to and including the idea of a reunion with Sammy Hagar, who succeeded Roth in the ’80s. Roth even recorded a song that seemed to be a farewell to Van Halen.

Hagar fronted the group from 1985–96, and then from 2003–05. Roth, who originally led Van Halen from 1974–85, has been back since 2007. This new episode of The Roth Show is titled “I’m In,” which hopeful fans could construe as a positive message, as well.

When Van Halen surfaced with "A Different Kind Of Truth" after all those years and all the smack talk coming from "The New Generation" of critics I have to admit I really liked the CD. Wolfie on bass instead of Micheal Anthony had me thinking maybe Eddie did the bass tracks, but any who, David did a great job on that CD. They included a DVD with alot of Roth talking about the direction the band was going. But as always, Eddie had to do his thing and really drag the band through hell.
Roth is a frontman, plain and simple. He still can sing the style of Van Halen rock. IF... the band can pull off another CD, my guess is it will be just as good as the last.
Sammy I love.. In Van Halen, well.. the fit is just not up to the original line up.

I really like "A Different Kind Of Truth" as well and I've always preferred Van Halen with David, so I'd be interested in another album with him, but at the same time, the press talk about this band is getting tiring. Whatever happens, happens and I'm fine with that.

Their last decent album for me was anything before Van Halen III.

ADKOT contained mostly (or all) reworked old demos from the 70's. Are there enough remaining unused demos left for another album? Could they actually write any all new material?

Obviously Roth put new lyrics into a lot of the songs from ADKOT, so we know he's got some creativity left. What about Eddie?
