Mine would have to be The Animals House Of The Rising Sun followed closely by The Sounds Of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel.

The one that defines the essence of the defiantly spirited '60's-Like A Rolling Stone though I Want To Hold Your Hand can lay claim to arousing the new youths' sense of bountiful rebellions a year earlier.……...

The Monkees hold many favorite songs of the 60's in my heart, but "You Just May Be The One" tops them all. I enjoy the coals by Mike Nesmith as well as his guitar work and the harmonies by the other three.

Nesmith is so overlooked underneath the whole Monkees stigma. As a writer,"Sweet Young Thing" and "Mary,Mary" are more than adequately satisfying to these '60's adoring ears as well as ol' Wool Hat nails some really superb country rock flavored guitar licks.Has anyone mentioned "Louie,Louie" here?A must for any truly comprehensive library of the decade's more revered party hits………

I just wish the powers to be for The Monkees at that time would have gave Mike much more creative freedom to write and also play the guitar brilliantly like he can.

Mike Nesmith also wrote one of my favorite songs from the 60's, Different Drum. Which was a hit for Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Poneys in 1967.
