Lester Bangs dismissed Master of Reality as "naive, simplistic, repetitive, absolute doggerel".

Of course, Lester was a freakin' douchenozzle, so if he didn't like it, it must be good? Nah, I won't go that far. It's a great album regardless of what that dork thought of it. 10 out of 10 stars.

Excellent! There are only probably 5 albums that I would rate as a 10 so this didn't make my cut as a perfect 10. It is very close to a 9 for me but Solitude brings it down a notch.

Still this is the record which opened my ears to that dark heavy heavy metal style. I was always into Kiss, Nugent, Aerosmith, Angel, & Starz type bands in the mid 70's. My friend played Master of Reality for me & I had to have it. I think I wrote once on another thread here how I was so Blown away by this record that I immediately traded an original Sgt Pepper album for it & I loved Sweet Leaf especially the coughing but I had no idea it was about pot! Had I known it was about pot I probably would've never brought the record into my home because I was so against it at that time. Of course once I realized most of my friends in high school smoked it it didn't bother me. I just never touched it & still haven't

love it. A 9 or maybe a little more. I didnt grow up listening to this but I knew Sweet Leaf, Children, and After Forever. After listening to the whole album for quite a while now, I really love side 2, especially Into The Void. Love the detuned sound for 1971, gotta be the heaviest album around back in that era.
