As much as I like Cheap Trick and Steve Miller I have to vote for Deep Purple.

By a long way Deep Purple! They are one of the big classic rock bands which had a huge influence on other bands as well as the genre itself. They are at the same level as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath!
