Kim Fowley, who was a longtime member of the L.A. scene, has been accused of rape by Jackie Fuchs, the bassist for the Runaways, which he managed. Worse, Fuchs said that her bandmates Joan Jett and Cherie Currie watched the whole thing. Both former bandmates have since adamantly denied her story. Fowley died back in January from bladder cancer at the age of 75.

The claim appeared in a story about Fuchs, whose stage name was Jackie Fox, in the Huffington Post. It took place when she was 16 on New Year’s Eve 1975 at a post-gig party in an Orange County motel. She had been given a handful of Quaaludes and went to a bed to lie down and passed out.

“I remember opening my eyes, Kim Fowley was ****** me, and there were people watching me,” she said. Cherie Currie said in the story that she spoke up before leaving the room. Nobody called the police, feeling that they were intimidated by Fowley.

Jett released the following statement regarding Fuchs’ claim to Yahoo Music. “Anyone who truly knows me understands that if I was aware of a friend or bandmate being violated, I would not stand by while it happened. For a group of young teenagers thrust into ’70s rock stardom there were relationships that were bizarre, but I was not aware of this incident. Obviously Jackie’s story is extremely upsetting and although we haven’t spoken in decades, I wish her peace and healing.”

Currie has issued her own denial via a series of Facebook posts insisting she would have physically intervened if she had actually witnessed the act in question, and vowing to take a polygraph test to prove she is telling the truth.

Fuchs stayed in the Runaways until mid-1977, with the assault never brought up. “[Y]ou forget it and you move on,” Currie said. “I pushed it out of my mind the best I could.”

But Fuchs’ replacement, Victory Tischler-Blue, said that the other members talked about it regularly, even making fun of it. “I heard about that nonstop,” she said. “They would talk about Kim f—ing Jackie like a dog. It was kind of a running joke.”

Fowley always denied that he had any sexual contact with any of the Runaways.

Innocent until proven guilty. It sounds more like an indiscretion (if there is any truth to it) than anything approaching what she is claiming. Especially telling is denial by her former band mates who would really have nothing to lose by corroborating her story.

Sad indeed. Sad that some people use crap like this to get back in the limelight.

Cherie Currie said in the story that she spoke up before leaving the room.

This is very strangely worded, almost as if to make it seem that Cherie corroborated the story. I think what they meant to write was that in the story, Cherie is said to have spoken up. Not that Cherie said in the story she spoke up. Although it's also possible Cherie was indeed reiterating Jackie's story -- it'd be a very strange journalistic choice when you could instead cite Jackie and her story directly.

Wow, I don't know what to think of all this... just started giving The Runaways a real listen about a year ago I discovered that they're actually a pretty decent band. This has no bearing on their music to my mind.

I have seen females willing and even aggressively engage in sex when willing under the influence and then sober up and in private use the word "rape". Not saying this is such a case ...I wasn't there. Just saying...

Oh, and I am in no way sticking up for Fowley.

I really don't know what to think. Stories like these ultimately makes everyone look bad. I've always felt that Fowley was the kind of man perfectly capable of what he is being accused of, but that does not automatically make him guilty.

Either way, I love The Runaways and I'm not going to let stories like this ruin that.

I'm not putting It past him ....it's the alleged bandmates participation that has me questioning her story. She wouldnt be the first female to tell stories of "rape" after willingly engaging in over the top sexual behavior. I was drunkenly slutty = I was raped to some people.
Seen it happen but the funny thing was they never told the police .... just people who were looking down on the slutty behavior.

Anyway, I have no idea what happen Obviously. ... either way Fowley was a scumbag taking advantage of the situation AND its still statutory rape ...so technically rape. He was supposed to be looking after them not preying on them.
