Led Zeppelin detail final reissues

Remastered, expanded editions of Presence, In Through The Out Door and Coda feature alternate mixes and unreleased songs

Led Zeppelin have released details of the tracks included on the forthcoming reissues of the band's final three albums, which are released on July 31.

The unreleased songs are the oddly titled 10 Ribs & All/Carrot Pod Pod, otherwise known as Pod, recorded during the Presence sessions, Sugar Mama, a blues jam from the Olympic Studio sessions for the band's first album, and St. Tristan’s Sword, an instrumental recorded at the same time as Led Zeppelin III. The latter two tracks appear on the companion discs for Coda, the only album in the reissue programme to feature two such discs.

Other tracks seeing the light of day for the first time include versions of Friends and Four Hands [Four Sticks] recorded with India's Bombay Orchestra in 1972, and a early version of When The Levee Breaks titled If It Keeps On Raining, from 1970. There are also alternate takes of The Wanton Song and In The Light. The full track listing is below.

The three albums will all be available in a variety of formats: single CD, Deluxe Edition CD sets, single vinyl, Deluxe Edition vinyl, digital download, and a Super Deluxe Boxed Set. The latter includes the remastered album on CD in a vinyl replica sleeve, the companion audio on CD in a card wallet, the remastered album on 180-gram vinyl in a sleeve replicating the original pressing, the companion audio on 180-gram vinyl, a high-def audio download card featuring all the music at 96kHz/24 bit, a hardbound, 72-page book filled with rare and previously unseen photos and memorabilia, plus a high quality print of the original album cover. The first 30,000 of will be individually numbered.

Tune in again in about five years when Page presents another round of reissues.

They clearly didn't have enough worthwhile material for a reissue of all 9 albums. Plus the remaster job isn't even very good, I can't tell the difference between the new remasters and the 1990s CD versions I have. And that was pre-boxset, pre-Mothership, it's like 3 remasters ago and it sounds the same as the 2010s version?

They should have put together a "Best of the Vaults" collection and compiled the best 15 to 20 tracks, that would have been a decent set. But luckily in the digital age we can just do that ourselves. Looking forward to posting my list once the new remasters are out.

I'd rather they find and release another concert to release, something on the level of How The West Was Won. There's gotta be more prime live Zep than what they've officially offered.

Oh man there's so many classic Zepp shows out there... I don't even have 'em anymore, I just remember from my bootleg days in the early 00s. I mean, Led Zeppelin DVD was good but they should really put out a boxset with complete or mostly complete shows from each different era.

It's strange to see how different bands handle things differently. You have some artists like The Doors and Hendrix's estate who will release any old thing, and then you have Zepp who have been pretty sparring with releases. And then you have Metallica which puts out every live show they do now, and it's great.

I just wish all my favorite bands happened to be the ones who release way too much material. Neil Young for example needs to get his ass in gear and release the rest of the Archives series because that man has like 10 albums worth of gems as good as any of his released material.

Reports of Neil Young's unreleased studio and live recordings have been floating around since the '70s. When Decade was released, it included some previously unreleased songs and was known to be the tip of the iceberg. His Archives series is off to a good start but he is moving too damn slooooow.

What bothers me about Zep is that for decades, prior to How The West Was Won, their one official live release was the soundtrack to The Song Remains The Same. Any Zep is worthwhile but this was clearly sub-par by their standards. More of West quality live recordings would be far more worthwhile than another round of remasters, which will no doubt continue as long as Jimmy Page is alive.
