After a bit of an absence (I forgot my password and never got around to resetting it, such is the horror of massed exams) here's a little playlist I intend upon ripping onto a double CD at some stage- the theme being London, circa 1967. I excluded the Beatles and the Stones- too many great songs to choose from and I wanted to keep it at one song per artist. Good fun mixing well known tracks with relative obscurities. Feel free to post your own versions!
Anyway, here it is:
1: Interstellar Overdrive- Pink Floyd
2: Tales Of Brave Ulysses- Cream
3: When I Was Young- Eric Burdon & The Animals
4: Sticks & Stones- Warm Sounds
5: Hi Hi Hazel- The Troggs
6: Happy Jack- The Who
7: Save Me- Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & The Trinity
8: Sunny Goodge Street- Donovan
9: Summer In The City- The Lovin' Spoonful
10: Friday On My Mind- The Easybeats
11: Every Christian Lion Hearted Man- The Bee Gees
12: Is It Love?- Jon
13: Painter Man- The Creation
14: Tallyman- Jeff Beck
15: Tiny Goddess- Nirvana (Not Kurt & Co; a UK psych act)
16: Waterloo Sunset- The Kinks
1: Purple Haze- The Jimi Hendrix Experience
2: Out Of Time- Chris Farlowe
3: 14 Hour Technicolor Dream- The Syn
4: Up The Wooden Hill To Bedfordshire- Small Faces
5: Devil's Grip On Me- Crazy World Of Arthur Brown
6: Dream On My Mind- Rupert's People
7: Mr Rainbow (Hallucinations)- Steve Flynn/Mark Wirtz
8: Paper Sun- Traffic
9: Sittin' On A Fence- Twice As Much
10: These Boots Are Made For Walkin'- Nancy Sinatra
11: Time Seller- Spencer Davis Group
12: Desdemona- John's Children (featuring pre-fame Marc Bolan)
13: Love Makes Sweet Music- The Soft Machine
14: Happenings Ten Years Time Ago- The Yardbirds
15: Death Of A Clown- Dave Davies
16: A Whiter Shade Of Pale- Procol Harum
If I rip it as a double CD, disc two would probably end with a hidden bonus track a la 'Her Majesty' on Abbey Road- a reading of 'Tonight Let's All Make Love In London' by Allen Ginsberg, which shared it's name with an exploitation documentary of the same name about London's psychedelic scene in the Sixties which was released in 1968. The soundtrack album inspired me to undertake this little project.
Anyway, if you end up listening to this playlist, I hope you enjoy! Most if not all of the tracks can be found on Youtube. I'm yet to play it through as I'm just finished compiling it. Good fun, I intend to make a San Francisco inspired one shortly to serve as a companion piece.
