Bought the vinyl last week. Blonde on Blonde as well, and I honestly have to say I've never heard an album that's so, I don't know if I can put it in words... " That wild Mercury sound... ". I think Bob put it best. Blood on the tracks is a masterpiece, highway 61, Wesley is great for what it is, Bring it all home, Nashvile Skyline is a masterpiece, but nothing... Nothing is the equal to Blonde on Blonde. The funny thing is I used to hate it, I just couldn't get into it. One day I was driving through a storm and I played One Of Us Must Know, and it just clicked. For a man known for his lyrics, he sure can write some beautiful music. Dylan is the unparalleled God of music. He is the standard by which all artists should measure themselves. ( Exhales ).

Bob has released 36 studio albums (and tons of other stuff). I can't pick out one and call it his best or my favourite, there's simply too many great albums to choose from. I think his 60s/70s releases are superior to later releases, but I honestly like all his albums. That being said, I do have a soft spot for "Nashville Skyline".

Many great albums to choose from but for me it's unquestionably Highway 61 Revisited. Each song is a knockout.

Blonde on Blonde is another long-time favorite, featuring some of his greatest songs. "Visions of Johanna" is a personal favorite. TheGushinRussian singled out "One of Us Must Know" and i agree it's a great one, often over-looked.

From the '60s, I also regard Bringing it All Back Home, Freewheelin', John Wesley Harding and the songs that comprise The Basement Tapes as classics. Anoter Side is close to that level. Nashville Skyline is deliberately slight by comparison but has some outstanding songs.

In the '70s, Blood on the Tracks is the easy standout. I over-rated Desire at the time but it remains a very good album, as are Planet Waves and New Morning.

Since then, Time Out of Mind and Love & Theft are two more great ones.

My own compilation of what I consider his greatest hits.

Its so hard to choose one from so many greats. Today I'm going with Blood On The Tracks.

I agree that Highway 61 Revisited is wall-to-wall brilliant, but I think Blood On The Tracks will always be special to me as it was the first Bob Dylan album I ever listened to. I absolutely love Tangled Up In Blue, You're A Big Girl and Idiot Wind and the rest isn't exactly bad either, to make a great understatement. It stands as perhaps the greatest breakup album ever made and as the benchmark by which most other breakup records are measured.

I should probably clarify I have only listened to five of his albums in full - these being the first two I mentioned, Bringing It All Back Home, Blonde On Blonde and Desire although I am familiar with most of his other 'big' songs (Blowin' In The Wind, All Along The Watchtower, Knockin' On Heaven's Door and classics of their ilk).

One song I really like on Blonde On Blonde apart from those already mentioned is Rainy Day Women #12 & #35, can't help but laugh at 'everybody must get stoned'. :heheh:
