I have recently started listening to The Seeds, Monks & The Troggs and been liking this "heavier" mid sixties stuff . Looking for anything a bit hard, gritty and psych for the time period.
Anyone wanna help me out by pointing me in the right direction ?

Thx in advance .....

Im well versed in blues rock , heavy psych, and hard rock... garage rock plz

The 60's garage rock genre is a huge catch all for the amazing bands that sprung up all over the North American continent.
A lot of the energy stemmed from the success of the Beatles, but since most of it was regional music, you got to hear so many styles and influences.
Some of it borders on pop, some punk, some psychedelic, some folk/R&B. A lot of it is just plain old unique. That's what makes it some of my favorite music.

The thing about garage rock from this period is that much like the 50's, the single ruled the regional radio waves. If you are looking for physical (not streamed/downloaded) copies of this music, your best chance is with compilation albums. Bands like The Sonics, 13th floor Elevators, and The Remains were lucky to get full album contracts, but a lot of these bands released a single 45rpm, then *poof* never heard from again.

I highly recommend the Nuggets series of compilations as a great place to start.

As Phil B. pointed out, the Nuggets collection is a good starting point, though some of the songs may be too much on the pop side for Vader's taste.

Louie Louie by the Kingsmen has not been mentioned; i think of that one as the start of the garage band era (or Rumble by Link Wray).

Other titles not previously mentioned:

You're Gonna Miss Me - 13th Floor Elevators
Psychotic Reaction - Count Five
96 Tears - ? & the Mysterians
I Fought the Law - Bobby Fuller Four
Dirty Water - The Standells
Seven & Seven Is - Love
Journey to the Center of the Mind - Amboy Dukes (w/Ted Nugent)
Double Shot of My Baby's Love - The Swingin' Medallions
Wooly Bully - Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs
Talk Talk - The Music Machine
