I love looking at photos such as the BBC CD cover from the early days of the Fabs, before all the unnecessary bickering that would later ensue later mostly over business. From the time of the passing of Brian Epstein, the ship was begining to sink already, though apparently no one had any idea at the time. Many have theorized that the Beatles may have gone well into the 70's had Brian lived to attend to Apple affairs.Really their own fault though. You simply cannot run a business with employees being half intoxicated half the time and signing on artists and others of questionable value to the company.Particularly,"Magic" Alex Mardas,Apple's supposed resident electronics wiz.The man was given some funding and accomplished absolutely nothing of any real business value. In the begining,it was just four rock and roll loving lads having the time of their lives while their business affairs were in the hands of a man who WAS accused of making a professional blunder or two,but he still possessed much more business acumen than his most famous clients....................

In a certain sense I believe you're right, Hurdy. Surely the situation of the record label got out of hand. On the other hand John was shattered when Brian Epstein passed away because the musician was so fond of him. Also Yoko introduced Lennon to heroin. Successively the band "accepted" Allen Klein and Paul was suspicious of him. Definitely it was a very hard and strange time. Anyway I'd like to know what are your favorite songs.

No, the 60s was their decade, they ruled the pop scene
but it had to end there, their egos were too big, they were clashing

they had to break out on their own and during the 70s Paul John and George went on to write and perform many fine and classic songs... on their own with total control of everything.
It just had to be that way ... Yoko and Linda had come on the scene....
it was all over .

Hi Wyman!
You were asking about my favorite Beatles songs.Usually,it is so difficult for me to narrow things down to my faves because they did so many things on so many levels I stop trying.Firstly, titles released as singles naturally tend get favor here while many album tracks such as "I'm Looking Through You" from "Rubber Soul","Fixing a Hole" from "Pepper" and John Lennon's gorgeous "Because" from their final effort "Abbey Road" are quite often swept under the rug of the magnificence of major chart hits such as "Hey Jude","I Want To Hold Your Hand","Let It Be","Help!" and so many others. The White Album was actually originally ALL album tracks until "Ob-La-Di-Ob-La-Da" was released as single circa 1977(it mangaged to crack the upper half of the Billboard Hot 100).This,"Back in the USSR" "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Birthday" and perhaps a couple of others could have easily been great singles. With the bias toward hit singles that still receive major oldies radio airplay in mind,I tend to lean towards tunes like "Let It Be","Help!" "Strawberry Fields" and "I Am the Walrus",which may have been B-side to "Hello Goodbye",but up until late 1969,Billboard was awarding chart positions to flips and while "Hello" peaked at No1,"Walrus" as it's alternate side managed to climb up to #56 and I'm sure it still is fairly popular on classic rock stations. And let us NEVER forget the one that really fueled the flames of Beatlemania,"I Want To Hold Your Hand" which is definitely one of the top three most important rock singles ever, perhaps along with "Like A Rolling Stone" and either "Rock Around the Clock" or the Stones' immortal "Satisfaction".Perhaps two of the top three are highly variable, but "Hand" absolutely belongs no lower than third. This was the particular Lennon/McCartney fave that raised the bar on songwriting quite considerably.I've always adored George Harrison's "Within You,Without You",his musical foray into his high Hindu beliefs as well both of his "Abbey Road contributions,"Something" and "Here Comes the Sun".I also have a bit of preference for "Eleanor Rigby" and,of ALL songs, the wonderful novelty we all know as "Yellow Submarine"(why not?).Decisions,decisions.I could go on and on and on with so much more material ad infinitum so I'll just stop right here. What are some of YOUR favorites?

Thanks for having answered. So my favorite song is "Help!". Precisely I don't know the reason. Probably it's due to the fact that "Help!" is one of the most captivating movies I've ever seen. This film came to the theaters in 1965. Therefore it's very old but I can still appreciate typical Beatles humour.

I love the song "Yesterday", especially the live version where George introduces Paul and says, " and so for Paul McCartney of Liverpool opportunity knocks." Then Paul stands alone on stage and sings/plays the wonderful song.

"Yesterday" is marvelous musical introspection, complete with a melody that McCartney actually derived from a dream as was the general concept behind "Let It Be".Everyone can relate to this one cause we all have certain at least mild regrets("why did she have to go","I said something wrong now I long for yesterday")as well as(with the exception of ones who pass away very young)most of us are absolutely baffled by how swiftly time on this earth(at least in your current incarnation if you're a believer in after life)goes by faster and faster the older we get and how the "good ol' times" seemed to have, like in "Help!","vanished in the haze",except in the case of "Yesterday",Paul wonders why he's "not half the man he used to be"and why there's "suddenly a shadow" precluding him from deriving the same level of lust for life he used to acquire quite easily. The tune was written around the time the Beatles were very quickly developing into major pot heads, which would have a massive influence(along with,of course,LSD)on their existential perspectives.Even before the "Help!" album on "Beatles for Sale",you can already detect the impetus of this trend in John's "I'm A Loser".Once psychotropic substances and Bob Dylan entered the picture, all bets were off about where exactly the Fabs' would take us next on their nearly culture shocking magical mystery tour.Or was it indeed definitely culture shock?..............
