Re: Aerosmith ~ Toys in the Attic (1975)

Though I don't know the lyrics, I agree about your opinion of "Big Ten Inch Record"... not my favorite song from that album either. But in terms of raunchiness, "Walk This Way" has a line or two in it that surprised even Tyler himself that it would get played on the radio at all. Apparently the offensive lyrics got past everyone who mattered back in the mid-70's. Or perhaps they just looked the other way. ;)

I find BigTen Inch a bit more... umm... suggestive than walk this way, and I think they got played because aside from some editable language...it was all just implied and wasn't said right out... I love that in songs:grinthumb

Big Ten Inch has a very interesting line in it.... "Suck on my big ten inch" ...pause..."Record" I think you can use your imagination:D

I wore out "Walk this way" on the album playing it over and over to capture the words. LOL

Oh, I know. But here are the lyrics for "Walk This Way". Again, even Tyler was surprised the song made it to the airwaves considering this was only the mid-70's and the times back then just weren't as permissive as they are with today's... ahem... "music".

Backstroke lover always hidin' 'neath the covers
Till I talked to your daddy, he say
He said "you ain't seen nothin' till you're down on a muffin
Then you're sure to be a-changin' your ways"
I met a cheerleader, was a real young bleeder
Oh, the times I could reminisce
'Cause the best things of lovin' with her sister and her cousin
Only started with a little kiss
Like this!

Seesaw swingin' with the boys in the school
And your feet flyin' up in the air
Singin' "hey diddle diddle"
With your kitty in the middle of the swing
Like you didn't care
So I took a big chance at the high school dance
With a missy who was ready to play
Wasn't me she was foolin'
'Cause she knew what she was doin'
And I knowed love was here to stay
When she told me to

Schoolgirl sweetie with a classy kinda sassy
Little skirt's climbin' way up the knee
There was three young ladies in the school gym locker
When I noticed they was lookin' at me
I was a high school loser, never made it with a lady
Till the boys told me somethin' I missed
Then my next door neighbor with a daughter had a favor
So I gave her just a little kiss
Like this!

what I love about it though is that it doesn't just come out and say "I screwed a hot chick.... she sucked my d**k" like today's music would, it was all implied, but enough to not have to really have to think about the meaning..., I don't think technically the song says anything "undesirable" if you take the literal meaning, and I love lyrics like that where the writer basically creates a new coded language... until hearing this song, I never would have though anything sexual from a see saw.. compared to how stuffy radio was with rock n roll when it was totally new, I'd say at the time I would have been shocked to hear something like that on the radio, but that opened the door a bit, they found ways around it I guess

This was really typical Tyler, in the 70's though. Bold, brazen, raunchy, and one of his addictions, so he naturally wrote and sang about sex. You have to admit, some of his metaphors are pretty good for stating what he wants you to hear and interpret.

I can remember as a teen singing these songs at parties and screaming out loud..."suck on my big ten inch".......and bust out laughing.

Toys in the Attic, was first music that I bought with my own money, not a lot of money in your pocket when your only 15! 8-track bought at our local appliance store. Played it till the tape was so worn that you had to change the tracks by taking it out and move the tape forward with your fingers!!!

I almost bought an Akai Cassette deck on E-Bay last year...but I missed out, they used to make excellent tape decks back in the day.
