I hope both that rock will make a comeback and that Kayne will go away.Obnoxious bordering of the narcissistic.Hey,does anyone here recall West claiming he was more or less the new John Lennon?Actually even more absurd than all this "Kayne is helping McCartney with his career" BS.Does Kayne even know who John Lennon was?If he thinks he's somewhat of an artistic equal of Lennon's,he must inexplicably have John confused with Eminem of Jay Z.I think the frigen idiot leader of Oasis(Ian Gallagher?)pretty much once saw himself in the very same egocentric light. If I'm Sir Paul with all these young ones never having heard of me,I'd be like "what the hell do I have to do walk on water or turn water into wine or something to get noticed in my own right with these ignorant schlemiels?"Man writes absolute staggering amounts of Bilboard hits hugely, impacts the world on a popular culture level and this is what he gets from some people,"who the hell is this guy?"Outrageous and socially criminal.................

It may be extremely bizarre but socially criminal is extremely harsh. And the people on twitter bullying those tweets over it which they are is an example of how ****ed up people can be.

It's not that popular because quite frankly most newer rock bands that get exposure aren't that good. Most of them are indie bands that just aren't that original and don't bring anything new to the table. I believe the classic days are long gone and even the rock from the eighties is better than what we have today. I'm not sure when the anti rock trend started but I suppose it might have been when white kids decided it was more cool to listen to rap and hip hop or techno or whatever. However, does anyone really think that the Black Keys or the Foo Fighters aren't popular? I know there are others but those two pop into my mind for some reason.

The only thing Rap fans know or even care about as far as classic rock or the rock medium in general is using bits and pieces of the genre in their raps,a process known as sampling. At least most people that appear to be hardcored Rap fans will probably never have any true appreciation for the kinds of things we discuss here.Rap's too diametrically opposed. There was, however,a release called "The Black Album" where some rappers got together for some Beatle covers.Haven't heard it,but when I first heard about it,I must admit it was rather refreshing that the artists who participated exhibited appreciation for the Fab Four as they were probably among a miniscule group of rappers who know and appreciate classic rock.Just a quick footnote here.I was impressed back in the '80's when Run DMC collaboarated with Aerosmith on "Walk This Way".Of course,a most unusual pairing, but I was quite pleased with the result. Also,I me and some friends thought the MTV video was kinda funny..................

How many of us are still livin that would&could truly appreciate the music of a new Rock&Roll band with new material in an unbiased opinion having grew up&listen to the tunes that came out during the 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's even some of the new melinum(I can't spell that& ain't gonna try).
I see some members on this Forum the younger generation that are very interested in these tunes(Classic Rock) that will have a hard time coming up with new stuff&Not the sampling crap& remakes, a daunting task if their up to it.
I'll be listening.

I think the album you are thinking of may be "The Grey Album".

I agree Squid..it is hard to separate from the classic memories of younger years. I listen to a lot of newer music, just looking for that fresh new tune. They don't seem to pop up near as often as they used to.

With all due respect to your passion for Rock I don't think your opinion is wholly true particularly on the extreme ends of things. I've been a fan of both genres for quite some time. I don't think they have to be oil and water and fans can find value in both. As far as sampling goes I've found some very creative uses of sampling that trump a lot of Rock artist covers as I found the Rock covers played it too straight. The best use of someone's work imo is when you respect it enough to know what stands out about it and you apply that with your own personal essence for lack of a better word. As far as Kanye goes I don't like him personally but I like his work. I will still have to mention in all fairness that Paul did come from a band with the famous comparison to being bigger than Jesus. In all honesty though I do believe that the quotes with people saying that Kanye was going to make Paul famous were trolling and knew they'd get that reaction. Paul simply played piano on that track. No one's going to pay that much attention and hype up a piano player on a Hip-Hop song unless they knew better. Just my opinion but I think the internet fooled the wider public again. I'm a rock fan like you and appreciate your openness to some Hip-Hop and even that you don't like it. I'm mostly saying that a lifelong fan of music can appreciate both genres instead of one or the other. Peace! :)
