Lynyrd-Skynyrd-Vinyl-Box-Set-1973-1977-630x420.jpg

A six-album vinyl box set will collect all of Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s classic-era studio and live LPs, packaging them together for the first time.

Each album, originally released between 1973-77, features exact reproductions of the original artwork and will be pressed on 180-gram audiophile vinyl. Simply titled ‘Lynyrd Skynyrd,’ the set is due on Jan. 26.

Skynyrd made their debut in 1973 with ‘Pronounced ‘Leh-’nerd ‘Skin-’nerd,’ a Top 30 hit that included four of the group’s best-loved Southern-rock favorites: ‘Gimme Three Steps,’ ‘Simple Man,’ ‘Tuesday’s Gone’ and ‘Free Bird.’ A consistent seller, the album eventually went double platinum in 1987.

‘Second Helping,’ from 1974, has enjoyed similar sales success — as did 1977′s ‘Street Survivors,’ the fifth and final studio effort featuring founders Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins, who were killed with guitarist Steve Gaines and others in a tragic plane crash shortly after the album’s release.

The new box also includes 1975′s ‘Nuthin’ Fancy,’ and ‘Gimme Back My Bullets’ and ‘One More From the Road,’ both released in 1976. The latter, which went triple platinum, is Lynyrd Skynyrd’s only live album featuring Van Zant. Skynyrd reformed in the late ’80s, building a new lineup around founding member Gary Rossington and Ronnie’s brother Johnny Van Zant.

Getting them in a collected box and brand new is a bit tempting, but unless they are remastered (which is not even needed, as the originals sound awesome), I don't really see the point. I own all of these albums on vinyl (and CD) and they are all easy to find everywhere, especially in second hand stores. Instead, I'd love to see some of the older albums get the deluxe treatment on CD, like "One More from the Road", "Gimme Back My Bullets" and "Street Survivors" did.

Have them all on vinyl already but may buy some of the newly reissued pressings If they come out on individually packaged 180 gram wax.

Will look at the set if it ever comes out here, but like members above, I already have the lp's, all of which are pretty good copies. Don't think I'd buy it unless the extras are very tempting.

I have Street Survivors and Gimme Back My Bullets original copies. I would much rather put in the effort to hunt for the other individual original copies than dish out the cash for the whole box set. Like SDM said they are pretty easy finds. Especially in my neck of the woods.

Need to be released as individual items or it's just a way of cashing in. There may be some 20 something Skynyrd-virgin out there but mostly this is aimed at folk who already have these albums in one form or another i.e. the people who have commented here (including me).
