I just read a couple of articles that said McCartney is working with West for political reasons. Wonderful. Somebody in a post said he thought it was time for McCartney to retire. I disagreed but now I'm not so sure anymore.

He's beyond a jerk. To do what he did to a disabled fan is disgusting. He's a pathetic excuse of a human being. If people like his music that's their prerogative but don't idolize this guy too much because he is a horrible example to his own fanbase.

I thought that incident was a mistake that was seriously exaggerated by the wolves, I mean the tabloids (and the haters).

Anyway, if an artist being a jerk is a reason for you to dislike his music... Say goodbye to your classic Chuck Berry, CSNY, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple (or anything else Richie Blackmore plays on), Guns N' Roses records. Anything produced by Phil Spector. John Lennon could be a bit of a douchebag, especially during his Lost Weekend. Compared to most of them Kanye West is a humble model of restraint.

Not really. I think his music is garbage anyway but him being a douchebag is just as such. There are plenty of bands I like that you named that have the odd jackass in their line up. The only time a band member's behaviour could affect my enjoyment of their music if it was serious enough like being a ****, a rapist or something like that. But for being dicks, not so much. If I hate their music its usually if I think its shit.

Yet another example of current day youth's blissful ignorance of persons such as Sir Paul who did so much set a template of style(s) that influenced so many future great artists and even hall of famers.Apparently, even before this McCartney debacle,it wa becoming apparent to me that these young ones today indicate in many ways that the answer to everything lies in either drugs, sex,or money. No significant spiritual or philosophical values.Nothing wrong with sex drugs and money so long as they bring you legitmate pleasure, your use of them doesn't harm anyhone and you don't value them as much as if not more than life itself as so many do today. And I'm NOT speaking strictly of youths.Really can't fully explain why I or ANYONE even dignified this "Who is Paul?" stuff with responses.Utter ignorance of the grandest degree....................

Well, I was astounded by this, but only for a minute.

It's been what, 4 generations? In today's instant force feeding music generation, there's not any real sense of history.

Why would there be? They don't have to look for anything. Their music is brought right to their doorstep with TV, PCs, etc. The instant it becomes available, boom, they have it without ever leaving their chair.

You can't really lay all the blame on the listeners. The way they get their music is as much (probably more so) the industrie's fault. Right here, right now.

There probably is an element of laziness involved, wherein people accept the music that is dropped in front of them. And that's good enough for them.

If they had to go out of the house to get their music, actually do a little leg work, they might not be so easily placated.

I know when I was a kid, a trip to the record store didn't end when I got the record I went there to get. Heck, you spent time in the record store. You looked around.

Flipped a bunch of records over and read the back of the album. Checked out artwork.

You looked at albums of bands you were only mildy interested in, like I was with Fleetwood Mac. Check out the album anyway. Yup, Stevie Nicks, still fine as frog's hair.

You looked in the display case to see if Aero had a new patch for your jean jacket. See if there was a new Nugent poster.

You couldn't helped but be exposed to more than you came for. Instead of looking at a little screen, at a record store, you were literally surrounded by sights and sounds of anything and everything musical. The music playing in the store is an aphrodisiac you can't get if you're sitting in a chair shopping, looking at one thing at a time on a PC screen.

Heck, just writing this and remembering those trips makes me want to go music shopping.:)
