I am currently trying to convert my friend who LOVES rap. Very sad. I have given him a list of songs that I think are the best. He hates them all. He just refused to let me give him any more to listen to. Any tips?

Don't worry!I know how it feels,it was same with myself when I was about twelve (and I'm 16 now),that's when I completely fell in love with rock music and started with my guitar lessons.I was trying to turn some of friends to rockers, but they never actually seemed to care.I mean,I was so excited because I've just discovered just how rock music is awesome and wanted to share it with someone, but all of my friends thought I was mad. So,I decided to give up.Now,every time I discover a new band I simply enjoy it myself and I never try to bore anyone with it.That's one thing that makes me enjoy my music even more, because I don't have to listen to criticism of the people who have no idea about good music.

I have done my bit passing it on to the following generations. My four kids were thoroughly brainwashed, and they are now doing their best to spread the message. My 12 year old grandson is an AC/DC fan, and last night I was listening to my son impress on his daughter's friend why she should listen to DSOTM :gig. However, we all know, in terms of profile, Rock is a pale shadow of where it was, say, 25 years ago. But the bands and the music are still out there. Bands like Blackberry Smoke and Rival Sons have surely shown the way forward for everybody in the modern 'Rock World'. Rock will go on forever.

I think you hit the nail on the head right there!

Btw, I love the fact that you have now name-dropped Blackberry Smoke twice this month (no, no, no, I'm not keeping count!)

How did you get your kids and grandkids to get into rock?

Rock is there. It's just not mainstream. It's not ever going to be like it was.

Music evolves, that's just how it is.

Exactly. People don't have to like the sound there is today but do have to accept and get over that it has changed. For me anyway bands like Airbourne keep the rock spirit alive, there'd be heaps more modern acts that are quite decent.

I must disagree with Vehicle.Mainstream music is not E-volving,it is DE-volving into a mire of vacuous meanderings..................

I think the 'classic' period never really died out- after all, millions of Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd albums are sold each year. Even if there's a smaller variety of contemporary artists, we are still spoiled for choice with music from the classic period. As long as they sell, rock won't ever really die out. As said above, we just have to keep sharing it to keep it alive.
