What do you country fans think of this recent development of mixing rap with country.I say nice try trying to come up with something new,but it just doesn't work.At least not for me anyway

As far as I can remember, the most recent attempt I've heard was Brad Paisley's "Accidental Racist" featuring LL Cool J. Didn't work for me, although I've heard worse. Generally rap does not work for me, regardless of what genre it's mixed with, although I have a few exceptions like Salt N Pepa's rock/metal version of "None Of Your Business" and Ice-T's metal band Bodycount.

Two entirely different methods surrounding the area of perspective as well as diametrically opposed modes of expression.I think the rap/hard rock thing can work well,as exhibited by 1985's Run DMC/Aerosmith collaboration on "Walk This Way".I think the heavier rap and metal/hard rock works have the same general level of power and earnestness in terms of dutiful communication, but a country/rap conglomerate is absolute water and oil. What's next,a mixture of bluegrass and alternative rock?............

Why not?

Most country today isn't 'real' country, in the tradition sense of the word.

It was watered down into crossover pop years ago.

I'm actually kind of surprised it took *ahem* country music this long to wade into the rap pool.

Yelawolf does it pretty well.

Ha! Ha! Ha! Yellawolf is not considered Country-Rap. Now to answer the question, I personally approve. For me, it is just a fun, new-ish subgene of Country and Rap. Say what you want about it, e.g., the two genres not meshing together or whatever, but it has it followers like me.

Plus there is this: Colt Ford is the first person to have an album go #1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums Chart when Declaration Of Independence topped the chart the week of August 25th, 2012 and also have an album go #1 on Billboard's Top Rap Albums Chart with Thanks For Listening for the week of July 19th, 2014.

Now, I wouldn't say that the Rap fans were the ones that help get Colt #1 on the Rap Charts, as I would say it was the "New Age Country Fans" that did so, as that is the general market for his albums. I kind of think that, and please correct me if I am wrong, that Rap fans (ones that would call rap their favorite genre) probably find it to be garbage that an artist like Colt Ford is even eligible for Billboard's Rap charts.

Till It's Gone is one of the best hip hop songs that came out this year.

It's definetly got a swampy, country vibe to it.

Yelawolf's in a lane of his own tbh
