I love the album Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane. I need to get some Jefferson Starship. Haven't heard them in years

Joey Covington, who helped to create Hot Tuna and played drums in Jefferson Airplane for a few years, has died at the age of 67. He passed away on June 4 following a car crash in Palm Springs.

According to news reports, Covington’s sedan “slammed head on into a wall near a curve” around 5 p.m. He was declared dead at the scene, and police are investigating the cause of the crash. Witnesses said they heard no tires screeching prior to the accident.

Covington was one of the original members of Hot Tuna, along with Jefferson Airplane’s Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen. The band formed while Grace Slick was recovering from surgery and the Airplane were unable to tour. Covington was the Airplane’s drummer at the time.

He started playing drums at age 10 and replaced Spencer Dryden in Jefferson Airplane during the recording of 1969′s ‘Volunteers’ album. He also played on the ‘Bark’ and ‘Long John Silver’ albums. He left the group in 1972 to pursue a solo career.

While he was generally unheard from after he left the Airplane, his name did surface on Jefferson Starship‘***** 1976 single ‘With Your Love.’ He toured as a member of the San Francisco Allstars in the ’80s and ’90s.

I've been to listening to "Pillow" and occasionally 1969's protest driven "Volunteers".All very fine psychedelic folk, but my fave of the three albums I've heard is the pertinent stream of consciousness of "After Bathing At Baxter's".Many albums from its period were labeled "trippy" by the counterculture, but this one literally takes the listener on an almost singled toned yet not boring or monotonous aural adventure. As previously hinted, the Airplane were willing to take their audience down the rabbit hole, but instead of just getting their toe in the water in that direction with "White Rabbit","Baxter's" offers an entire album of mind expanding bliss.Jefferson Starship, the band's first spinoff yielded some highly enjoyable 70's pop, most notable 1975's "Miracles",but there lacked the spirit of their anti-establishment 60's,and as simply "Starship" the ship once again went down with the third dip."We Built This City" is considered by many to be the worst rock single ever issued.I recall upon its release hating its trite commercial nature...........................

Definitely my favorite group especially the Airplane Years. I do like some songs from the Jefferson Starship, but never really liked when they turned to just Starship.

As far as I know, she is officially retired. Too bad, but on the other hand, I prefer to remember her the way she was, rather than ending up with some terrible record just for the heck of it.
