I'm always a bit puzzled by the Southern Rock category, ZZ Top is Southern Rock?, I've even seen Kansas listed as Southern Rock on some compilation albums. I'm voting Allman Brothers because I'm not completely sure, but I think they either invented or defined the genre.

I saw a Southern Rock compilation that had Foghat and George Thorogood on it:gig

I might include ZZTop ,but not Kansas

The song that turned me on to the Outlaws was Hurry Sundown. :grinthumb Heard it on the radio in the late 70's an searched for it for years without knowing who it was.

Guess I'm the only one who went with Molly Hatchet. Skynyrd is obviously the champions of southern rock but I think Molly Hatchet is the more gnarly of their peers.

I also love the Molly Hactchet, their guitar work was incredible, their debut album was superb, not a bad song it, Flitrin' wasn't bad either.

Fair point, but just like the current version of Lynyrd Skynyrd, they are still releasing top notch albums and putting on one hell of a live show. Some of the later Hatchet stuff is equally as good as the old stuff imo. "Devil's Canyon" and "Silent Reign of Heroes" are damn near masterpieces in my book.

Devil's Canyon was Danny Joe Brown's last Hatchet album and I will admit that I have not listened to much new material after he passed away

The solo album Danny Joe released in 1981 is pretty good, especially Edge Of Sundown
