Rush is an acquired taste. I started following them at the age of 16 when I first saw them during their Hemispheres tour. They are master musicians but their early stuff is definitely not pop. I personally like Farewell to Kings, 2112, and Hemispheres. Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures would come next. If you like their more "pop" sound then Moving Pictures would the one. Otherwise I would recommend 2112.

Here's an instrumental from Moving Pictures

Rush. 1974 kick off album. If you like Budgie you will like 'Working man'.

Listen to their debut but really listen to Fly By Night. That is where their sound started.

Moving Pictures is probably the one Rush album that's the most universally well liked. I would start there. But if you don't like MP, it dosen't necessarily mean you won't like any of the others, every Rush album has a very different feel to it. I'm weird, my favorite Rush album is "Caress of Steel".

My favorite Rush album is Caress of Steel, but it's probably not the best place to start. I'd go for Moving Pictures or Permanent Waves first.
