So I thought that it might be a good idea have a general discussion thread about anything metal that might be on your mind...new bands...new discoveries. ..want to bitch about something ..whatever. As long as its pertaining to metal and is there no thread for it....u get the idea.

I thought I would open up with my recent interest in avant grade metal. Mostly avant grade black metal has been getting my attention . I am currently listening to MURMUR - Murmur 2014.

Pretty interesting stuff on first listen ...I will give my thought on it In detail after I have had time to listen for awhile and let it sink in. Discuss ANYTHING Metal. Curiosity has got me trying this out ...want to see if this site has fans here who are interested in talking about their general metal interest .

This is a neat idea for a thread. I mean we can discuss individual bands in their own threads but here we can discuss metal bands overall for more discussion at the same time.

The discussion we had about Roots album the other day rekindled my interest to hear it again. Love it even more now for the tribal elements added to it. I can understand how this record put people off for the slight nu metal tendencies but I love it. I do enjoy nu metal also so it doesn't annoy me about the traces of it. I still prefer Chaos AD and Schizophrenia overall but Roots would be a close third favourite.

Arise and Beneath the Remains have always been my favorites. I been thinking about getting Roots out and giving it another go though, actually.

Sepultura in general takes me back to the 90s as a kid. My sister would crank Chaos and Roots so I guess also nostalgia kicks in for me on those albums. lol

Pantera is another of the 90s I always heard as a kid through songs like Walk, Cemetery Gates, Psycho Holiday, Five Minutes Alone.

I love both old Sepultura and Pantera. Two of my favorites from that era. Both were majorly extreme for the time. Far Beyond Driven was just blow your head off out there when it came out. Nowadays I hear kidscall Pantera sellouts which Is just ridiculous. ...they were pushing the envelope.

lol Selling out is such an easy term for people to cling to when a band changes their sound and just happens to become mainstream popular.

There was nothing mainstream about Panteras sound though. They just had a shit load of rabid metal freaks buy their albums.

This Murmur album is pretty badass BTW.

Mainstream success Pantera did have not necessarily in sound though.
