I've only just gotten really into her and since we don't have a thread... Time for us to talk a lil' bout Demi.

:PO: :sing:

Here's perhaps my all-time favorite of hers, a transcendental dance hit turned into a chilling ballad at this British radio session.

Demi Lovato was a child actress who, after some smaller roles (e.g. Barney & Friends!) landed a gig on Disney Channel due to her above average singing capabilities. She starred in the 2008 music-themed TV movie called Camp Rock, the soundtrack of which skyrocketed to #3 on Billboard's main album chart, with the empowering, if fluffy, single "This Is Me."

Her first album in her own rite came later that year, titled Don't Forget. Similar to her Camp Rock style but a little more mature, it featured the critically-acclaimed track "La La Land."

In 2009 her second solo album came out, titled Here We Go Again. It had a bit of a catchier, bouncier sound, and gave Demi more hits such as the title track and a pulsey little jam called "Remember December."

Then Demi fell on dark times. Struggling with depression, drug abuse and eating disorders, her Disney career was prematurely severed and she entered rehab.

She didn't release a new album for another two years. And this was when I first heard of her. Since I had jumped ship from Disney to Nick, I hadn't even heard her name until I got on Twitter. Never seen an episode of her show or her Disney movies. But I saw her new single on VH1.

Skyscraper was a sparse, haunting, emotionally-charged ballad that ruminated on Demi's life troubles and her dedication to overcoming them. It also boasts one of my all-time favorite music videos, one that truly captures the mood of the song with a wandering Demi over a desolate desert backdrop, almost like something out of Jesus Christ Superstar.

In 2011 she released Unbroken, her third album and a huuuge leap forward for the quality of her music. The songs were strong and mature, and they dealt with dark themes. In its darkest track, Demi discusses her troubled relationship with her father, whom she refused to maintain a relationship with even unto his death from cancer in 2013.

Now at the peak of her fame and the peak of her powers, Demi released the self-titled Demi in 2013, a power-packed record full of edm dance strains but retaining the stark honesty and organic instrumentation she's known for. It also brought a whole slew of monster hits.

So I have to say Demi Lovato's becoming a strong favorite of mine. I never had any connection to her as a TV star but her music is just stunning, beautiful and powerful. She's got a powerful voice and a good head on her shoulders, she can go far. Anybody else a fan?

*I put this in the 10s section since I feel like her 'true' career only truly took off (i.e. beyond the Disney Bubble) at the start of the 10s. I mean that's when she started making actual hits rather than just children's hits.

If anyone was going to write a thread for Demi Lovata it would be you AAG...:grinthumb

I only know her from seeing her on TV, the whole batch of Disney manufactured stars I tend to avoid, even though that is patently unfair once they leave the company to be replaced by a younger cuter model.

I know the first song you posted, and she does have talent, not sure I'll ever be a big fan though.;)

Thanks for giving her a shot, LG!

Honestly I'm quite flush with great modern pop, I had no intention of becoming a Demi fan. But she pulled me in with sheer strength of material.

Here are a couple reeaaalllyyy cool tracks I probably should have posted first time around. This first song steals from a Zepp song I think... I can't point my finger on what track it is.
