but was Prog really "normal" in the early 70's? no! critics hated it, lots of radio jockey's hated it, a ton of fans hated it. it was popular but wasn't normal at all in the early 70's. and like what was stated before, proto punk was around long before Prog reached it most overblown period. Fun House by the Stooges came out in July of 1970 (when prog was still in its baby years) and that record is nothing but straight up punk.

prog wasn't the only stuff featuring these long jams and structures... a lot of it was at the dying day of the flower period...and the pop stuff, was... umm... what is a good word? fluffy... yeah "fluffy" works:heheh:
you had Hendrix, and the Dead, and Zeppelin's first album, that has some booooring, long tracks on it, I love that album, but it took the psychadelic a bit far, by the end of 69 I'm sure a lot of people were sick of the peace, love, and happiness... someone wanted violence, destruction and blood:D it wasn't only prog, it wass all the pop and rock music, it doesn't mean any of its bad or wrong, I'll go straight from listening to Ramones at CBGB's to Grateful Dead at Cornell U. I loved punk shit in middle school, I was a bit arrogant/ignorant in my ploy that all other music in some of my exact words.."f**king sucks d**k":heheh: but there needs to be the love-y jams and the pure energy reckless horrifying punk rock, both kept each other in check

so are you saying bands like Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Jeff Beck Group and Velvet Underground weren't the opposite of fluffy? i mean these groups brought every bit of the hard rock to counter all of the fluffy stuff, no need for a bands to rise to counter music that has already been countered. they just wanted to do something new. Miles Davis wanted to do something new just for the sake of stretching the boundaries of jazz and finding a new sound. i don't get why its so hard to accept that these punk and proto punk bands did the exact same thing

They did the exact same thing, but opposite ..... eventually all the counterculture becomes normal its no longer shocking and new so something new needs to be done, usually it is opposite so that it is the new counter culture....
just like grunge did to hair metal, punk did the same thing...

If anything were actually different than what ACTUALLY happened, none of us would be here right now. To state otherwise is no different than stating this Friday could exist in all it's glory without last Monday. Can't happen. So yes, EVERYTHING that happens within the linear development of time itself is necessary. Whether our ego's think so or not.

That doesn't mean that Punk had to happen in order for this or that to happen, it just means that there can be no choosing whether or not Punk was necessary. It happened so therefore it was necessary. As far as pimples on people's asses, well that's a simple matter of eating too much junk food and possibly having one too many over active hormones. What you have to ask your self is whether or not your ass itself is necessary. Ever tried walking around without it?
