Am I the only person who pretty much hates Metallica?

Sometimes I get the impression people think it's cool to diss Metallica. Hate is very harsh word, do you really hate them? Your attitude I guess is a refreshing change to the drones who bang on about them selling out Black Album onwards since you don't rate anything (well anything apart from Ride The Lightning) they've ever done :heheh:

Personally ive always hated James's vocals and in fact it kinda reminds me of Nu-metal and Nickelback type voices.

Can't see that at all :nw:

I love James's vocals, he's up there with my all time favourite voices like Rob Halford and Geoff Tate, he might not have the power or range of those two but nonetheless it ticks all the boxes for me. And what was it Jason Newsted said about him in an interview last year... "He [James] is the best at playing and singing, it's just impossible to do some of those parts that he plays on guitar and still sing a straight vocal line. It just gets my vote forever as far as the capacity to do that. He's just untouchable in that way." Total agree with this :grinthumb

Besides AC/DC is a very mainstream band with an arguably harsh vocalist who you could barely understand yet they are well accepted.

Really curious as to which vocalist you are talking about here as personally I've never had a problem understanding or ever heard anybody say this before

Me too, except about Bruce's clothing style! :oyea:

Reckon it's a slight improvement on the spandex :heheh:

I think its a bit silly to hate the band just for selling out. I actually dislike most everything they've done (except for RTL as you've mentioned). The thing is its not like I just sat there and said hmm I'm not going to like this band because they're popular I've honestly tried to get into their albums but besides RTL and perhaps some of MOP it wasn't very enjoyable. It wouldn't normally bother me that much but I'm huge into thrash and I've listened to tons of obscure unknowns and have enjoyed the vast majority of it to some extent, yet I can't enjoy the leading band?

By AC/DC I was thinking of Brian Johnson on Thunderstruck. Perhaps bad example maybe I should've went with Louie Louie by the kingsmen lol.

Wasn't trying to have an argument dude just a bit of chatter. I never said that nobody could like Metallica or had to like the same things I do. I have been criticized for not kissing ass when it comes to Metallica, Slayer, and Iron Maiden though. I just feel in some ways these bands are more praised for their status and impact than the quality of their music and consistency.
Since you like Ride the Lightning I can somewhat relate to a lot of what you say. It took a while for it to grow on me but it is by far my favorite thing they've ever done. As for Maiden, if you haven't heard the first two albums I think you are in for a real treat. After that I don't really care much for them either. Piece of Mind and Number of the Beast are cool but nothing like the epic sound of the first two.

I like Iron Maiden but I don't rate them as highly as most. I do like that song Phantom of the Opera off the first album.

I detest Nickelback with a passion.. I don't hear the relation at all with James voice.

I do think the later days he started singing differently but I definitely don't think he sounds anything like those sissy boys. I find that an offensive comparison lol
..James has more talent with his arsehole than chad kroegar has in his vocal chords.
& Nu-metal is in no way categorical with Nickelback either lol

Honestly James vocals really do remind me of that type of music. Its sorta low pitched redneck thing going not really country but late southern rock I guess. Im not good at describing these things but I feel Metallica transcended so well into pop because his voice was perfect for a 90s rock group more so than it was for thrash. Dont take me out of context please Im not good at wording this stuff. I much prefer vocals like what Destruction, Bathory, or Watchtower had.

Southern Rock? wtf mate... Have you ever listened to the early albums?? or just the shitty songs they chose to play most on the radio in the 90's.

I really hate when people here just a few songs on the radio to make their decision on if they like the band or not. The songs that get chosen for radio play usually aren't the greatest. I still wouldn't compare even their sappiest of songs with Nickelback though.

Clearly I've listened to plenty of Metallica. Anyway this chorus is annoying as hell.
